Round of Sixteen

by Edwin on June 23, 2010

in Futbol

I have been busy watching the World Cup since it started back on June 11th. This morning I watched the U.S. vs Argelia game and I have to say I was pretty upset. They had so many chances to score but just couldn’t put it in the back of the net. Finally they scored and thanks to that win they are moving on to the round of 16 and face Ghana this coming Saturday where they are going to have to really “bring it” otherwise they won’t make it any farther.

I have been pretty angry at the way the team has been playing. In the game vs England they got lucky and played really horribly, couldn’t get two passes together. In the game vs Slovenia they played a horrible first half but thankfully they turned that around in the second half. I just haven’t seen that much consistency for 90 minutes, they suck one half and play better the next and that simply will not do at the biggest tournament on the planet.

I am happy that they made it to the next round but really hope that the team steps up their game, and fast.

World Cup 2010

by Edwin on June 10, 2010

in Futbol

Every four years something bigger comes along, bigger than the Superbowl, bigger than the Olympics and that is the FIFA World Cup. 32 teams from around the planet will duck it out for absolute supremacy and bragging rights. Tournament starts tomorrow morning so check your local listings because we are going to have to get up real early.

Now it’s time for predictions, I know you were waiting for that. I am predicting, along with a bunch of people, that Spain will win it all. I am also predicting that the U.S. will get to the round of 16 but hoping that they make it farther. It’s going to be quite a month but I am ready and I know that you are as well.

March it’s finally here and that means that Futbol season is upon us, yeah!!. First kick takes place the 25th of March between the Philadelphia Union and the Seattle Sounders. I have to choose my Fantasy team soon and maybe write a post about how my Fantasy team did last season. I can’t wait to see my team, the four time D.C. United, win that 5th championship and hopefully it will happen this year.

The weekend is finally here and come this Sunday I will be enjoying MLS Cup 2009 between the Los Angeles Galaxy 12-6-12 48 points and the Real Salt Lake 11-12-7 40 points. I congratulate both teams for reaching the finals this year.

The game will be played in Seattle at Quest Field and will be live on ESPN and Galavision, check your local listings. Prediction time again, even though the Galaxy has the stars and the best record I am going with the underdog and in doing so I predict that the Real Salt Lake will win their first MLS cup this Sunday.

in Futbol

As you well know, if you follow this blog, I am a huge Futbol fan. I have followed Major League Soccer and my team the four time champion DC United since their inception in 1996. There are 15 teams in the League and I am excited to announce the newest team, The Philadelphia Union. The Union will start playing come next season and I can’t wait to see the United vs Union battle. I have to say that their team name and logo are some of the best in MLS, I am very impressed with them. If you want to check them out click here to go to their official website and if you want to know the whole story about the team logo click here, a very good and informative read.

in Futbol

The long Major League Soccer season is coming to and end this weekend with MLS Cup 2008 between the Columbus Crew 17-7-6 57 points and the New York Red Bulls 10-11-9 39 points. The Crew earned the Supporters Shield as well which is awarded to the team with the best regular season record. Congratulations are in order to both teams for making it to the big game.

The game will be played here in Los Angeles at the Home Depot Center and will be live on ABC, check your local listings. Prediction time, the Crew were the most consistent team all season and in my opinion they will win their first MLS Cup on Sunday and will walk away with the new Philip F. Anschutz Trophy, picture below which is a great improvement over previous ones.

Fantasy Futbol Update

by Edwin on September 19, 2008

in Futbol

Futbol season is almost over and as you know I have been playing fantasy Futbol. I should have written an update midway through the season but since I didn’t I thought that now would be a good time.

I am currently ranked 4738 with 1868 points (top team has 3246 points) as I write this post and that is not where I want or wanted to be when the season first started. My goal was to be in the top 100 and for a while I was climbing nicely and made it to the 2300 hundreds if I remember correctly but then things started to head south fast and so far have not been able to recover.

My best picks so far

  1. My Goalkeeper John Busch from the Chicago Fire with 545 points in 1st place.
  2. My best Defender Michael Harrington from the Kansas City Wizards with 112 points and in 3rd place.
  3. My best midfielder Christian Gomez from the Colorado Rapids with 86 points and in 13th place.
  4. My best Forward Kenny Cooper from FC Dallas with 274 points and in 1st place.
  5. My coach Steve Nicol from the New England Revolution with 249 points and in 2dn place.

As you can see I did pretty well with many of my picks. The best picks I made were for Goalkeeper and Forwards which include Edson Buddle from the LA Galaxy in 3rd place with 244 points, Luciano Emilio form DC United in 4th place with 232 points and Chad Barrett from Toronto FC in 8th place with 155 points. One more Fantasy Futbol update as soon as the season is over.

I have been so busy lately that I forgot to mention Superliga 2008. Like they say, better late than never. Well. today is the Superliga final and it’s an all MLS final between the New England Revolution and the Houston Dynamo. These two teams met in MLS Cup 2006 and 2007 finals with both games ending with Dynamo wins. I am going with New England and here is my prediction, New England wins with a final score of 2-0.

New England is in first place in the Eastern Division and overall MLS leader this season with a 10-4-3 record while Houston is 6-4-8 and in second place in the Western Division. The game is at 8 PM ET at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Mass, Check your local listings and enjoy the game.

Futbol, Futbol And More Futbol

by Edwin on June 30, 2008

in Futbol

The weekend was full of you guessed it, Futbol. I watched three games and just a few minutes of another one and to be honest I could have watched a lot more. First thing is first, last Thursday I wrote about the game between Spain and Russia and gave my prediction of the final score. I was close, the final score was 3-0 in favor of Spain so they moved on to face Germany in the finals.

On Saturday I watched the game between the Columbus Crew and the Colorado Rapids which the Crew won 2-1. When that game was over I managed to catch a few minutes of the New York Red Bulls and Chivas USA game when New York was up 1-0, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

As soon as Saturday was over I got ready for Sunday’s doubleheader. I set my alarm for 8:30 AM. When my alarm went off I quickly took a shower, got me some coffee and cookies and sat down for game one. That four time champion D.C. United vs the L.A. Galaxy. The game was great, I saw a lot of improvement on the part of my team and it showed. They beat up on the Galaxy with a final score of 4-1 and with that they move into third place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-7-1 record and 22 points.

Then it was time for the main event, Spain vs Germany in the Euro 2008 Championship game. The game was very good with Spain playing better than Germany and in the end Spain won with a 1-0 score and with that they become a two time European Champions, last time they won was in 1964. I had a feeling that Spain would win and they did so I congratulate them.
