Japan vs. USA

by Edwin on July 13, 2011

in Futbol

So it comes down to this, Japan vs. the USA in the 2011 Women’s World Cup this coming Sunday, check your local listings. I didn’t see team USA play but from what I’ve read and heard from commentators at some point France was in control of the game and looked like they would win but team USA made some changes and ended up winning the game 3-1.

I did see the Japan vs. Sweden game and let me tell you, it was the best game I have seen in a long time. Sweden scored first and I honestly didn’t think that Japan could come back but oh boy was I wrong, Japan took over and never looked back. They took control of the ball and played a really beautiful game with a lot of short accurate passes and won 3-1. If you get the chance to see it I highly recommend it, that is the way Futbol is meant to be played.

I am not going to make my usual prediction this time around, instead all that I will say is may the best team win.

So come this Sunday check ESPN or Galavision for local times. The game will take place in Toronto at BMO field. And now it’s time for what you’ve been waiting for, my prediction, I have been pretty good at predictions as you know. Anyway, I predict that the FC Dallas will win their first MLS Cup this year.

D.C. United!!

by Edwin on August 6, 2010

in Futbol

If you have been a reader since the beginning then you know that my favorite team is the four time champion D.C. United. The team hired a new coach last year and at the time I wasn’t happy with the choice but decided to keep my mouth shut and give the guy the time he needed to prove me wrong.

The All-Star game marks the halfway point of the season and that game came and went, all stars lost by the way. It was then time to check how the team was doing and it wasn’t good then and it isn’t good now. After 18 games the team has a 3-12-3 record good enough for 12 lousy points and that is unacceptable!!.

Management did everybody a big favor by firing the coach this past Wednesday and they did me an even bigger favor because I was going to write an irate post asking for his firing. Why was that dude ever hired in the first place I’ll never know. The team has an interim coach, Ben Olsen, for now and I wish him nothing but the best.

Fantasy Futbol?

by Edwin on July 22, 2010

in Futbol

I have been playing Fantasy Futbol since ‘08 and was so looking forward to it this year. Before the season started back in March I went to the official Major League Soccer site to pick my team but to my surprise I couldn’t find it.

I know that I am pretty late writing about this since we are almost halfway through the season but hey, better late than never, right?. Now, if you know what happened to Fantasy Futbol then by all means take me out of my misery and let me know.

So Long World Cup

by Edwin on July 12, 2010

in Futbol

After a month long tournament World Cup 2010 has finally come to an end. The final between Spain and the Netherlands went into overtime but in the end Spain won its first ever World Cup with a score of 1-0, congratulations!!.

It was a great tournament, I jumped out of my seat many times, I screamed Gooooooool!! a bunch of times, I was disappointed a few times but that is the way it is when you are passionate about Futbol and I can honestly say that I am.

I am not going to post about the World Cup anymore, unless something comes up, but I sure can’t wait until Brazil 2014.

World Cup Semifinals

by Edwin on July 5, 2010

in Futbol

The final four start the hunt for the finals on Tuesday with the Uruguay vs. the Netherlands game and on Wednesday Germany vs. Spain, check your local listings for times.

The Semifinals were unforgettable to say the least starting with the game between Uruguay and Ghana that I will not forget for a long time thanks to a hand ball. Close game that Ghana was going to win at the last minute if only they had made that penalty but it didn’t happen, that Budweiser ad has really made quite an impression during penalties, the rest as they say is history.

I didn’t expect the Netherlands to beat Brazil but they did and so the five time champion is back home watching the action instead of being in it.

I expected the game between Argentina and Germany to be closer but that wasn’t the case. It was a trashing that Argentina won’t forget for a long time.

The Paraguay vs. Spain game was close and Paraguay could have won it if it had not been for that Budweiser commercial showing up again to mess things up again during a penalty kick but when all was said and done Spain made it to the big party.

World Cup Ads

by Edwin on July 2, 2010

in Futbol

I have been watching the World Cup since the beginning last June 11th and with that came the ads, yes the ads. To be honest, I don’t remember that many previous good World Cup ads but that is not the point here people. The point is that you and me want to be entertained at halftime, right?. So far the ads this WC have been quite disappointing.

The Nike ads, have been lame, not entertaining at all. The Adidas ads have been just as lame, yes, even that Star Wars ad, disappointed again. The Coca Cola ad, well, if you don’t have anything good to say about someone you better not say anything. The only good and funny ad is the one from Budweiser, I won’t describe it here but if you want to see it just head on over to YouTube.

For the record, that is exactly what happened to the Ghana player when he took that penalty kick against Uruguay earlier today, that was a Déjà vu moment. Come on now advertisers, this is the biggest sporting event in the whole universe and this is the best you can do.

Quarterfinals

by Edwin on June 30, 2010

in Futbol

It took quite a while but we finally know the teams that will play in the quarterfinals starting this Friday.

On Friday we have Uruguay vs. Ghana and the Netherlands vs. Brazil.

On Saturday we have Argentina vs. Germany and Paraguay vs. Spain.

Check your local listing grab a cup of coffee, sit on the recliner and enjoy, I know that I will be doing just that. I do have to say that I am very disappointed with the US, another horrible game with no midfield, a crummy defense and a bunch of missed chances and that is all I am going to say, disappointing indeed.

in Futbol

The weekend is finally here and I can’t wait for it. In case you didn’t know the World Cup is not finished yet. The round of sixteen starts tomorrow and this is it, you win you move on, you lose you are going home so now it’s the time to bring it.

There are two games tomorrow, Uruguay vs. South Korea and in the second game the US will face Ghana, check your local listings for times. The winners of tomorrow’s games will meet on July 2nd for a chance to move on to the semifinals.

I expect the US to win tomorrow’s game.
