Futbol, Futbol And More Futbol

by Edwin on June 30, 2008

in Futbol

The weekend was full of you guessed it, Futbol. I watched three games and just a few minutes of another one and to be honest I could have watched a lot more. First thing is first, last Thursday I wrote about the game between Spain and Russia and gave my prediction of the final score. I was close, the final score was 3-0 in favor of Spain so they moved on to face Germany in the finals.

On Saturday I watched the game between the Columbus Crew and the Colorado Rapids which the Crew won 2-1. When that game was over I managed to catch a few minutes of the New York Red Bulls and Chivas USA game when New York was up 1-0, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

As soon as Saturday was over I got ready for Sunday’s doubleheader. I set my alarm for 8:30 AM. When my alarm went off I quickly took a shower, got me some coffee and cookies and sat down for game one. That four time champion D.C. United vs the L.A. Galaxy. The game was great, I saw a lot of improvement on the part of my team and it showed. They beat up on the Galaxy with a final score of 4-1 and with that they move into third place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-7-1 record and 22 points.

Then it was time for the main event, Spain vs Germany in the Euro 2008 Championship game. The game was very good with Spain playing better than Germany and in the end Spain won with a 1-0 score and with that they become a two time European Champions, last time they won was in 1964. I had a feeling that Spain would win and they did so I congratulate them.

Where Did My $20 Dollars Go?

by Edwin on June 27, 2008

in What?!!

Let me tell you a story about a mystery that just happened to me yesterday. I was on my way to the bank to make a deposit, nothing mysterious about hat you say. Well here is the mystery, the previous day I counted the money and then I put it in a little round metal container I have. I get to the bank, I fill out my deposit slip, wait in line and then I get to the cashier. He then counts the money and says “$130 dollar deposit” to which I replied with a question, “$130?”. I knew the amount was $150 because I had counted it the day before. So I then count the money myself and sure enough, it was $130. So I ended up depositing only $100 and as soon as I get out of the bank I start checking my memory files to see what could have happened to those $20 dollars.

My memory files had not been defragmented in a while so I couldn’t come up with an answer to my question. After a while (defragmenting takes a while if you haven’t done it recently you know) the only answer that I could come up with was that maybe, just maybe when I took the money out of that container I left that $20 in there. When I got home I checked my container and sure enough there they were, my missing $20 dollars safe as can be and just like that the mystery part of the story disappeared.

Spain vs Russia

by Edwin on June 26, 2008

in Futbol

Today is the second semifinal of Euro 2008 between Spain and Russia. In yesterday’s semifinal game Germany beat Turkey 3-2 and now await the winner of today’s game. Check you local listings for time. These two teams were in Group D and met in the first round that ended in a 4-1 win for Spain. I am going to do my best to watch the game because I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one.

I happen to like both teams but I am going for Spain and my prediction is a 3-1 Spanish win and on to the finals to face Germany.

My Dream Home

by Edwin on June 25, 2008

in Just Stuff

I am a simple guy, I like my food warm and my women pretty. One of my dreams in life is to someday own my own house. Once upon a time I had a thing for those Geodesic domes, they have a unique look that I still like.

Being a single guy (and available by the way ladies, wink, wink) I thought that something smaller and simpler would be the way to go for me and so I started to search online and sure enough I found a place called Maple Homes that offers prefab homes. After checking the site I found and fell in love with a particular home, check the picture below.

The home is the Jay and it’s from the Recreational Collection. The total area is 651 sq.ft. The home is 18 feet wide with a 22 feet depth. It has a kitchen, bathroom, living room and a second story bedroom and it evens has a covered porch. This home is just what the doctor ordered for me. One day I am going to be the proud owner of a Jay and when that happens I’ll let you know.

Hotter Than Hot

by Edwin on June 23, 2008

in Weekend Recap

Saturday was was a nice day to say the least. I stayed home and I am glad I did. I went to bed at about 10 AM because I was playing COD 4 for most of the night. I ended up getting back up at about 3PM. I took a shower got me some food and then watched the game between the New York Red Bulls and the FC Dallas which the Red Bulls won 1-0. After the game I relaxed for a while and then I played some more COD 4. Nothing new about that you say, well here is the kicker. I went to bed at about 12:30 and that is a lot better than playing all night.

I got up at about 11 AM on Sunday, I took a shower and then got me some cereal and got ready for the game between Spain and Italy in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Championship. The game was great with Spain playing better than Italy and in the end winning deservedly on penalty kicks and moving on to the the semis to face Russia. That Sunday noon MLS game started about 30 minutes after the Spain/Italy game but I wasn’t able to watch it, this time around it was the D.C. United (my team by the way) facing the San Jose Earthquakes. My team won with a final score of 3-1. I then watched some TV and surfed the net for a while. By the time the night got here I got me some dinner and as soon as I finished that I started to play some more COD 4. I ended the day by going to bed late, about 6 AM to be exact. And just to make it all the more interesting, I have to work today.

Getting Around In Los Angeles

by Edwin on June 20, 2008

in Just Stuff

Getting around in Los Angeles is pretty hard specially if you don’t have a vehicle and if you are visiting it’s even worse. Although hard it is not impossible. If you are visiting and you plan on renting a car all you have to do is get a local map and if you are good at reading them then presto, problem solved. If you don’t like maps or asking people for help and if you want to avoid getting your wife mad at you then continue reading. If you are planning on taking in the sights by taking public transportation lots of planning ahead is highly recommended.

Here is some basic info if you are doing the latter. The most important site you need to check is this. You can plan your trip, just input where you are and where you want to go, what time you want to arrive and then just click on “trip” and it will tell you what buses you need to take, a very helpful site if you are visiting or if you live here,  I know because I use it myself. Let me tell you  a bit about the buses and their colors. The orange buses go most everywhere and they stop at every stop. Then we have the red buses or the “Rapid”, as the name implies these make stops at mainly busy intersections but they don’t serve all of L.A. And last but not least we have the Metro, yes we do have such a thing in L.A. but that is only a viable option if you are staying in the Hollywood or Downtown area of L.A. and visiting  somewhere in between those two points, that is pretty much it for the metro, sad but true. The fare is $1.25 for a single one way trip or you can get an all day pass for $5. That is pretty cheap from what I have read, the fares are a lot more expensive at most other big cities in the States. Los Angeles is a big place but don’t let that scare you. When you are informed nothing is as scary as it once was. So get on that bus and go, maybe I’ll see you there.

Note: always and I do mean always go by the bus number and not by the color because I have seen orange buses used for “Rapid” routes, remember that and you will be fine.

My New Girlfriend EMA?

by Edwin on June 18, 2008

in Is This Love?

I was just doing my usual surfing when I read about her and when I was finished with the article I felt something funny inside, I was kidding about that. Anyway, it seems that a Japanese  firm has created a 15 inch battery powered robotic girlfriend that will go on sale in September for $175 dollars and she is aimed at lonely adult males.

EMA stand for Eternal Maiden Actualization, check the picture below. Besides being very friendly she can kiss on command, sing, dance and can even hand out business cards. When EMA comes to the US and if I have a few dollars I would probably buy me one but not to be my girlfriend. I collect comic book related statues and she would fit very well in my collection.

An Ok Weekend

by Edwin on June 16, 2008

in Weekend Recap

Friday night into Saturday I got home late, at about 3:45 AM. Any normal person would go to bed but I am not a normal person. So instead I played Call of Duty 4 until about 10 AM. I woke up at about 3 PM, took a shower and then got something to eat. I then watched my brother and my nephew play Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots. I have never been a Metal Gear player but I didn’t mind watching them play. The graphics are great and the story is quite something.  After that I played some Call of Duty 4 all the way to 6 AM.

Sunday I woke up late, again, at 2 PM. I set my alarm to go off at 11:30 AM because I wanted to watch the game between the Chicago Fire and the FC Dallas but just like last weekend I turned off the alarm and went back to sleep instead of getting up. So I watched the Top Chef final which Stephanie won. Then I got ready for the Boston/Los Angeles game which the Lakers won. After the game I got online for a few and then I watched some more TV. I then played Call of Duty 4 until about 4 AM and then went to bed exhausted.

Friday The 13th Quick Hits

by Edwin on June 13, 2008

in Just Stuff

Today is Friday the 13th and I am so afraid, yeah right. I can walk under 15 ladders, 20 black cats can cross my path and guess what, it doesn’t affect me at all. I am not a superstitious guy but that is just me. I mean silver bullets, garlic or crosses affect me not but taxes on the other hand, when I see those I am terrified.

The Incredible Hulk is in theaters this very day. Why did Marvel choose Friday the 13th for the opening I don’t know. I do have a guess, maybe it’s because the Hulk is a monster when he gets mad but that is just my guess. Spoiler alert: stop reading now if you don’t want to know what happens in the final scene according to what I read. That Iron Man shows up to ask,  “What if I told you we were getting a team together?”, Avengers assemble! anybody.

Don’t forget that this Sunday is Father’s day. So if you haven’t gotten anything for the old man fear not, you still have time. I wish all dads out there a happy Father’s day and to my dear dad I just want to say, thank you for always being there for us kids, I Love You.
